Book an appointment through our online booking system (virtual and in-person options available), attend a drop-in advising session (details below), or email questions directly to advisor.science@smu.ca. Availability for regular appointments opens 14 days in advance.

Welcome to Saint Mary's Faculty of Science! β―β―
Your new journey is about to begin and it’s time to get excited about your future in the Faculty of Science! As Academic Advisors, we are here to support you every step of the way. Over the coming months we will be sharing various tips and resources to help you prepare for the start of classes in September.β―β―
If you haven’t completed your registration or unsure if you have chosen the right courses, meet with Us!
If you’d like to meet with an academic advisor, you can book through our online system: www.smu.ca/scienceadvising. You can book an in-person or virtual appointment. We are also happy to answer questions via email. We recommend that you visit an Academic Advisor at least once per term to make sure you’re on the right track to meet your education goals.
To start you on the right track, we have provided a few useful resources below.
Don’t forget to keep an eye on your SMU email for updates from us and other useful information sent to new SMU students. Not sure how to access your SMU email? Check out this useful link to help you access your account.
Science Advising offers both in-person and virtual drop-in academic advising. Virtual drop-ins take place via Zoom. The academic advisor will let students in one by one from the waiting room, throughout the drop-in session. For in-person drop-in advising, students can come to the Science Advising Centre in Atrium 301.
Please note: there will be no drop-in advising June 5 or June 9 - 11, 2025
The Faculty of Science also has a variety of academic program advisors who can help answer questions about courses, research interests, or other aspects of your degree.
As Academic Advisors, our job is to help you: • Make informed decisions about which courses to take and how to sequence your courses; • Determine an academic plan to achieve your educational goals;• Explore program options (majors, minors, certificates); • Understand University regulations and processes; and• Learn about University services, resources, and supports available to you
