Awards
Atlantic Canada Studies is committed to providing MA students with financial support to help them complete the program.
Graduate Students in Atlantic Canada Studies are eligible to receive Awards and Fellowships ($8,000 per year) provided by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR). Some students may also work as Teaching Assistants.
Students are automatically considered for FGSR funding, teaching assistant positions, and the additional scholarships listed below (with the exception of the Donald Higgins Memorial Fellowship), when they apply to the MA program.
Atlantic Canada Institute Scholarship
Criteria / Description: Awarded on annual basis to a full-time student in the M.A. program in Atlantic Canada Studies at Saint Mary's University. The recipient is selected by the Atlantic Canada Studies committee on the criterion of academic merit.
Annual Value (Approx): $700
Halifax Herald ACS Bursary
Criteria / Description: Funds are available annually for full-time and part-time ACS MA students who demonstrate Financial Need.
Annual Value (Approx): $1,700
Peter McGuigan Award for Atlantic Canada Studies
Criteria / Description: This award will be given to a graduate student studying for their Master of Arts degree in Atlantic Canada Studies. The recipient will have strong academic standing.
Annual Value (Approx): $2500
Donald Higgins Memorial Scholarship
Criteria / Description: For a scholarship and annual lecture. Scholarship open to all students enrolled in Atlantic Canada Studies.
Annual Value (Approx): $1,000
