Paul J. Dyer is Regional vice-President, Eastern, Scotiatrust – a company with which he has been working since 1969 in Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax and in a variety of capacities, including Trust Officer, Branch Manager and Assistant Vice President.
He graduated from Saint Mary’s University in 1968 with a Bachelor of commerce in Economics, and has since established himself as a successful businessperson in the financial sector and contributor to the governance and success of the University.
He has been a tireless supported of Saint Mary’s University having served as a Member of the Board of Govenors between 1997-2008, including a six-year term as Chair of the Board from 2002-2008, Chair of the Advisory committee to the President on Labour Relations, Chair of the Executive, Finance and Governance Committees, and has been an integral part of the University’s “Building On Our Strength” (1992-1998) and “Hearts and Minds” (2002-Present) Capital Campaigns. In 2008, he was awarded the Saint Mary’s Alumni Association’s Distinguished Community Service Award for his exemplary service to the campus, business and philanthropic communities.
Outside the University, has served on the Boards of the YMCA Metro Halifax, Symphony Nova Scotia, the IWK Health Centre Foundation, the Grace Maternity Hospital, the Ottawa YMCA-YWCA, Philanthropic foundations Canada and is a Member of the Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners, the Trust Institute and is Secretary, Treasurer and Governor of The Windsor Foundation.
The honorary degree from Saint Mary’s recognizes Paul Dyer’s commitment to post-secondary education, his leadership in financial management, and his continued dedication to philanthropy.
