Patricia Rowe

Patricia Rowe, B.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Dr. Patricia (Pat) M. Rowe is Professor Emerita in Psychology and former Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Waterloo. She is a pioneer in the field of industrial/organizational Psychology in Canada.

She obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from the University of Toronto, followed by her Master of Arts from Dalhousie University, and her Ph.D. from McGill University. She joined the faculty at the University of Waterloo in 1963 and retired in 2002, having received numerous awards for her contributions to research in co-operative education. She has also consulted with other Canadian universities concerning their co-operative education programs.

A leading figure in Canadian industrial/organizational psychology, her work has had a direct influence on the work of both faculty and students at Saint Mary’s University. She is a leader and strong advocate in the field of co-op education, using it as a tool to build links between universities and the outside world.

2009-2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the highly successful Masters Program in Industrial/Organization Psychology at Saint Mary’s University. The success of our new Ph.D. program is in no small way built upon the track record of our Masters program, which was greatly inspired by the efforts of Dr. Rowe.

The honorary degree from Saint Mary’s recognizes Dr. Rowe’s leadership in co-operative education, and her commitment and contributions to the field of industrial-organizational psychology in Canada.
