Doctor of Civil Law
Guy L. No?l, former Vice-President Administration of Saint Mary's University will receive a Doctor of Civil Law (Honoris Causa) at the Spring convocation. Mr. No?l dedicated thirty years of service to Saint Mary's before his retirement last year.
After graduating from St. Francis Xavier University with a Diploma in Engineering, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering at the Nova Scotia Technical College, later TUNS and now Dal Tech. Mr. No?l spent the next decade working in the corporate world, primarily with the Canadian International Paper Company and Federal and Provincial Governments. In 1969, he joined Saint Mary's University as a lecturer in the Chemistry Department. Over the next 14 years, he held a number of different positions, including Assistant to the Vice-President Academic, Director of Planning and Information Services and Director of University Services. In 1983, he became Vice- President Administration, a position that he would hold for 15 years. During his last year at the University, Mr. No?l was Special Assistant to the President, he made significant contributions to the Sobey Building project and campus union contract negotiations.
He has been active in associations connected with his positions at Saint Mary's including the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA), National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS), and the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS). He was also President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO).
For his professional dedication and commitment to Saint Mary's University, he will be presented with an honourary doctorate on May 12 at the afternoon convocation.
