During her 18 years with FEED NOVA SCOTIA, Dianne Swinemar has witnessed the demand for the organization?s service ? food and client programs, staff, volunteers and number of member agencies ? grow. In 1007/2008, FEED NOVA SCOTIA distributed 1.8-million kilograms of food, valued at $14.4-million to approximately 150 member agencies.

As executive director, Swinemar is recognized among her peers and within the community as being extremely committed and dedicated to her cause.

She has served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association of Food Banks (now known as Food Banks Canada) and chaired the government Relations Committee on the CAFB. She has also been involved as a volunteer with many community organizations, including an employment outreach for women wanting to re-enter the workforce and a training program for disadvantaged youth.

Swinemar is a graduate of McGill University (Montreal), specifically from the McGill-McConnell Master of Management Program for National Voluntary Sector Leaders. She also holds an Honorary Doctorate of Canon Law from the University of King?s College.

She was awarded the governor General?s Golden Jubilee medal in 2003, received the 2007 WAY TO BE Nova Scotian award, won the Canadian Progress women of Excellence Award for Communications and Public Affairs, and in 2008 was awarded the Elizabeth Ann Seton Award from the Sisters of Charity.

The honorary degree from Saint Mary?s recognizes Dianne Swinemar?s commitment to social justice and her role as a community leader in Nova Scotia.
