Dr. David P. Petrie is an internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon and professor of medicine.
He received a B.A. from the University of New Brunswick and studied medicine at McGill University. Dr. Petrie has practiced as an orthopaedic surgeon at Dalhousie University since arriving in August, 1970. He is a full professor in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine. He continues full clinical practice with a particular interest in joint anthroplasty (replacement) surgery, orthopaedic trauma, fractures and other injuries as well as an ongoing interest in sports medicine. His efforts in sports medicine have focused primarily on Saint Mary's University's varsity athletes.
Dr. Petrie is a member and served as President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. He is a founding member of Hip Hip Horray, a charitable walk that the association holds every spring to raise funds for orthopaedic research. The event has raised over ten million dollars for research, education and patient care.
Dr. Petrie is active in a variety of research activities including working towards the establishment of a Canadian Joint Replacement Registry and presents at national and international meetings. Dr. Petrie will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Saint Mary's University.
