Claudette MacKay-Lassonde, first woman President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, is a leader in the struggle to ensure that women engineers receive fair treatment and an opportunity to do well in a profession that has traditionally been male-dominated.
MacKay-Lassonde holds a B.Sc in Chemical Engineering from Universite de Montreal, a M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Utah, and a nuclear design engineer from 1976 until 1988, and became Director of Education Relations for Northern Telecom Canada in 1988. She has many professional affiliations, and was a founding member of Women Science and Engineering, and organizer of the first Canadian Convention of Women Engineers in 1981. She was a member of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada from 1985 to 1988 and a member of the National Advisory Board on Sciences and Technology from 1987 to 1988.
