Description: This metamorphic rock is a schist, which are medium- to high-grade metamorphic rocks dominated by mica minerals (often biotite and muscovite), and display a fabric called ‘foliation’. Foliation occurs when pressure causes elongate or flat mineral grains to align with each other, generating an overall planar fabric through the rock. This is why the rock appears sparkly when viewed in certain orientations.
