How do I register?
For university credit courses, you first need to be admitted to the university. See "apply now" at the top right corner of this page. Once you are admitted, you can register on-line. The Registrar's site provides directions. Mature students (if you do not have grade 12 and are 22 years of age) the application form is Form C http://www.smu.ca/web_applications/. If you do not want to register for a degree program, and want to try out some courses under our Open Studies program, you would complete form B http://www.smu.ca/web_applications/
For our Executive and Professional Development programs, you can register on-line through the EPD site, by fax (420-5284 or 1866-511-7111), or by mail.
For University Preparation Courses, contact Continuing Education at 420-5492.
For Elder Learners, contact Continuing Education at 420-5020.
Is there financial aid available?
Financial assistance may be available for those taking credit courses, depending on the award criteria and number of requests. Most awards require you to attend university full time (minimum 30 credit hours per academic year). How will I know if classes are cancelled?
In the event of a storm, contact the SMU storm line, 491-6264. Information on evening cancellations notice should be given by 1:00 pm. For extension credit courses at locations other than the SMU campus, Continuing Education will contact instructors and students. For Executive and Professional Development courses, the Program Assistant will contact instructors and students. Information about rescheduling information will also be provided.
Where do I park?
For courses on campus, parking can be difficult during the day. Check out Facilities Management.
For those attending Executive & Professional Development courses at the Sobey School of Business, call 420-5638 for assistance.
For courses at the World Trade Centre, there is usually parking at Scotia Square, and you can walk through the tunnel to the WTC.
Where can I find a place to study?
The Patrick Power Library has quiet study carrels available on a first-come, first-served basis. You cannot reserve a study carrel for your unlimited use. Do not leave your belongings unattended at any study carrel. Also, you may arrange for a group work study room in the Library at the Services Plus desk.
Some departments have student study and group work areas for those who are majoring in that discipline. You can inquire about these by contacting the department secretary.
Where can I get computer help?
The Help Desk is located at Loyola 268 (phone 496-8111) and in the Atrium. The Help Desk can help you with some of your technology difficulties. In each computer lab there is a lab assistant who can help you overcome technical problems but it is not their job to help you with assignments.
