The David Sobey Retailing Centre is proud to share its 2023-2024 Annual Report, highlighting a transformative year of research, innovation, and education in the retail sector. As a trusted partner and thought leader, we are dedicated to driving progress and preparing the retail industry for a dynamic future.

This year marked several key milestones, including the successful launch of our rebranding initiative, embracing the new positioning statement, Shaping the Future of Retail. This guiding principle reinforces our mission to provide actionable insights and cutting-edge solutions to address the evolving challenges faced by retailers.

Among the year’s highlights, our researchers explored critical topics such as consumer behaviour, artificial intelligence, and sustainable urban logistics, funded by $30,000 in grants for groundbreaking projects. Innovation was at the forefront with the continued development of our Store-Lab, a frictionless shopping experience slated for launch in 2025, and the creation of digital twins, blending online and in-store experiences for local retailers.

Education remained a cornerstone of our work, with executive programs such as RISE (Retail Innovation, Strategy & Excellence), District Manager and Category Manager programs empowering retail professionals with strategies for growth and success. Our Retail Month events, speaker series, and case competitions provided students with unparalleled opportunities to engage with the industry and gain real-world experience.
