Build Your Skills and Experience Record with CCR

Saint Mary’s University Co-Curricular Recognition (CCR) Program recognizes and documents students learning experiences outside the classroom that aren’t captured on their academic transcript. All verified CCR experiences are officially recorded the Student Experience Record.

Program Information

A Co-Curricular experience is an out-of-classroom learning activity that supports student learning and skill/competency development, specifically surrounding the interpersonal, intellectual, and professional growth of Saint Mary’s University students.

Experiences eligible for CCR are divided into six categories:

  • Volunteer: Includes both on-campus and off-campus volunteer experiences.
  • Professional & Personal Development: Workshops, training sessions, or other skill-building opportunities.
  • Student Societies: Involvement in SMUSA-ratified student societies.
  • Sports & Recreation: Participation in varsity teams, intramurals, or sport clubs.
  • Leadership: Paid roles where students provide direction or take responsibility for managing a task or initiative.
  • Awards & Certificates: Recognition through awards or certifications.

Students who participate in co-curricular programming:

  • Develop key employability skills and work-related competencies.
  • Enhance their resumes and LinkedIn profiles with meaningful, relevant content.
  • Gain stronger interview preparation by referencing co-curricular experiences as evidence of their skills and competencies.
  • Build and expand their professional networks.

CCR Verification Guidelines

  • Student Responsibility
    • Unless an experience is specifically designated for bulk upload, students are responsible for recording their own CCR experiences.
  • Validation of Activities
    • Each experience or activity must be validated by an approved on-campus or community partner.
    • Validators will be notified when a student requests to add an activity to their CCR.
  • Awards & Certificates
    • To add an award, students must email a copy or proof of the award to ccr@smu.ca for verification.
  • Competencies
    • When adding a position, students are required to select up to five competencies that best represent their experience.
  • Reflections
    • A reflection is required for every experience recorded. Reflections are submitted through the Co-Curricular Recognition module on Career360°.
  • Experiential Badges

To learn about ways to get involved with co-curricular recognized experiences, book an appointment with the CCR office through the Co-Curricular Recognition module on  Career360° or by emailing ccr@smu.ca
