This pattern is a variation of the shell-edged pattern on pearlware. The pattern was applied to both late pearlware and white earthenwares.
The "chicken foot" pattern (also referred to as the "crow foot" pattern) consists of regularly spaced clusters of two or three lines. A stripe of colour was applied over the pattern, darkening the indents in the pattern. This band of colour was generally blue or green, and it was applied under the glaze.
This pattern was only applied to 19th century wares.
